Reading all your comments i like to state this: Roman helmets were made in large quantities, and a lot were found, but considering the enormous numbers made during about years, the finds represent only a very small fraction of the numbers made there must have been more then a million! Making a helmet is not difficult.

This causes the targeted aircraft’s defense systems to warn of active targeting.

Suppose you were fighting in an exercise as blue air with opposing red air trying to shoot you. If you got notification on your RWR that an aircraft had locked you, you would want to know if it was from red air or just your wingman. He may have locked you unintentionally, or to help find you visually, etc. This term was used, somewhat incorrectly, in the movie The Incredibles.

Massacre on the roof of the world 18 Jan Russia’s president arrives amid a spurt of patriotism — some 50, locals signed a petition in recent weeks calling for the “Hero City” to be named Stalingrad again – and a fresh attempt to identify those who died. Mr Deryabkin, a year-old project manager at a tobacco factory, goes out with other volunteers every weekend to search for the remains of Soviet soldiers in the wheat fields and broken steppe to the west of the city, from where the Germans advanced.

His group alone finds bodies a year. Clothes have long since rotted away, but helmets, weapons and bones remain. Some servicemen carried a small plastic capsule containing their details on a scrap of paper. Not long ago, Mr Deryabkin found just such a capsule on a soldier who had been shot dead through his helmet. Miraculously, Mr Deryabkin tracked down the man’s year-old wife, and his remains were moved to a cemetery. If the volunteers are lucky, Mr Deryabkin asid, they find other personal effects with the bones: In the centre of the city, the giant statue of Mother Russia raises her sword toward the broad sweep of the Volga on top of Mamayev Kurgan, a Tartar burial mound that is now the resting place — in mass graves – for tens of thousands of Soviet soldiers who died within the city limits.

Until seven years ago, when Russia’s ministry of defence began to collect its data on war dead and publish it online, many relatives were unable to find out where their loved ones died or were buried. Now a Volgograd museum is using the still incomplete data to help families track down the fallen. On Saturday it will officially open a memorial wall on Mamayev Kurgan – a fiercely disputed vantage point during the close-quarters battle – in which the names of 17, previously unnamed soldiers are engraved.

Meanwhile, Gennady Dubonosov, 76, the head of a group called “Children of Stalingrad”, has written to Vladimir Putin asking the president to grant people who were under 16 at the time of the battle a special status, making them a category of veterans deserving benefits and larger pensions. Survivors of the day siege of Leningrad – another “Hero City” – received a similar designation, and Mr Dubonosov believes that, as they grow elderly, the young civilians who lived through the Stalingrad battle deserve equal respect.

The German Dagger was a very popular souvenir for many WW2 veterans who served in the European theater. For the German officers who wore them, they were a symbol of status, rank and power. Contrary to popular belief, WWII German Daggers were not used as weapons, but simply as an accessory to the uniforms of the German Officers and a very fancy accessory at that. There is also the ever popular Nazi SS Dagger. SS Daggers must be carefully scrutinized due to the extremely high number of very detailed reproductions dating back decades!

Often times novice collectors will unknowingly purchase an SS Dagger, only to discover later they purchased a very well made fake! Few collectors are lucky enough to see one in person, much less have the good fortune to add one to their collection. The dagger as a whole appears to be untouched, and uncleaned, with some rust spotting in areas of the scabbard fittings and hanger rings, which we do see with these daggers.

Everything about this hunting knife will take your breath away! Starting with the grip, the ebony wood is completely free of cracks and chips. There is notable verdigris where the wood of the grip meets the pommel cap and the guard, so we believe this dagger has never been disassembled, an added plus! Both ivory colored grip plates are free of cracks and chips, with both screws nice and tight, and without signs of being tampered with.
